Jim Bower knew what kind of horse it would take to begin building his Quarter Horse breeding program more than fifty years ago; he found that horse in blue roan stud Lowry Star. While Lowry Star will always be remembered as the beginning of the Bower breeding program, his chosen son, Lowry Star JR has done more than live up to his sire’s legacy. JR passes on the roping prowess and gentleman’s disposition that Lowry Stars are known for. JR’s calm demeanor makes it possible for anyone to ride him, from the novice to the PRCA pro. Past career highlights include winning several ropings, rodeos, and making a statement at futurities. JR was the first place heading horse at the Belle Fourche Classic in 2001; in 2002 he took second in heeling and fourth in calf roping at the Black Hills State Stock Show Super Stallion Competition – a testament to the versatility of a Lowry Star.

JR’s ability to not only sire great colts but to also perform in the arena and on the ranch did not go unnoticed, he was chosen by the National Foundation Quarter Horse Journal and Peter Stone to represent the Foundation Quarter Horse as a limited edition Stone model horse. The Bower family is proud that JR has been recognized for his versatility as an athlete and for his ability to produce outstanding prodigy and we are honored he was chosen to represent the Foundation Quarter horse.
